IN response to the proposal to close York's Walmgate Bar to all traffic, surely it would be more sensible to close it to lorries only and let the smaller vehicles keep the traffic flowing ('Ban on traffic at Bar to go ahead', May 24).
A camera should be erected, capable of properly identifying the registration number and/or company name of any unauthorised vehicle passing under the Bar.
The driver and owner of any such vehicle should be heavily fined.
Any costs incurred in rectifying damage caused to the structure should be paid by the offender.
A notice to that effect should be attached to the Bar. There is a notice advising of the headroom available.
Any driver who doesn't know how high his vehicle is should not be driving.
As usual, it seems the majority have to pay for the sins of the minority.
