IN an encouraging start to Giuliana Lazzerini's solo show at Adze Gallery in York, nine prints and monochromatic paintings by the Italian colourist were sold at last weekend's private preview.
The Tuscan Memories selling exhibition assembles new works drawn from Giuliana's memories of a childhood and adolescence spent in rural Tuscany.
Gallery director David Durham says: "Her paintings not only have exuberant colour and surface subtlety but also embody the warm feelings of joy, fun, enchantment and affection that belong to those formative years in Tuscany."
Tuscan Memories marks a new development in Giuliana's working practice. "She is best known for her large and medium-sized, richly coloured oil and acrylic paintings - which do feature in the exhibition - but she would like to be recognised for her forays into printmaking and monochromatic paintings, so we're pleased with how the preview went."
Tuscan Memories runs until June 19 with work for sale at £125 to £1,450. Adze Gallery, in Gillygate, is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm; admission is free.
