POETIC Evocations, Wendy Tate's exhibition of large-scale nudes, will be turning heads at Pocklington Arts Centre until June 30.
Wendy was awarded a substantial grant from the Arts Council towards this show. Her figurative works in oil and acrylic seek to "intertwine an essence of nature with the human form", and Poetic Evocations also sees her moving into encaustic painting, which involves painting with wax and pigment.
"It significantly changes the way that you paint because it dries in seconds!" says Wendy. "This makes for some interesting paintings that are full of rich texture.
"The figure comes in and out of vogue but for me it is the perfect tool to try and capture chaotic impressions and experiences and explain them in familiar terms. Nothing speaks more directly to us.
"It is part of a reality known to all yet it remains paradoxical, elusive and contradictory."
