A TEENAGE girl is to get £400 compensation from an "antisocial" youth who assaulted her in a York street.

Prosecutor David Tucker told York magistrates that the 15-year-old girl was walking along Bishopthorpe Road, York, at 9.15pm, on May 19, when Danny Adrian Holmes, 18, saw her and started shouting.

He then pushed her and she fell against a bicycle that was resting against a shop front and then to the ground. She suffered headaches and bruising to her cheek and side. Holmes was with a 13-year-old girl.

Last week, Holmes was given a criminal antisocial behaviour order at the city's magistrates' court. In an effort to stop his drink-related offending the order bans him from York for two years and from drinking in public other than on licensed premises. The assault was committed before the order was made.

Holmes, formerly of Holgate, York, and now of Cygnet House, Selby, pleaded guilty to assault and was ordered to pay £400 compensation. He is currently serving a combination order involving community rehabilitation and punishment for earlier offences.

His solicitor, Martin Hawes, said Holmes had approached the older girl with the intention of sorting out a problem between her and the younger girl. He had not intended to push the 15-year-old girl against the bicycle.

Holmes had been drinking before the assault and had an "attraction" towards alcohol, Mr Hawes said.

The court heard that Holmes had 13 previous convictions, including assaulting a police officer, assault and threatening behaviour.
