QUEEN Margaret's School junior and intermediate athletics teams have powered their way into the second round of the English Schools Athletics Association Track and Field Cup.
The junior team from years seven and eight won the first round at Huntington Stadium to qualify for the 'A' final in June at the Gateshead International Stadium, where they will be pitted against other winners from the North of England.
Elizabeth Eden, 13, produced the performance of the day in the 1,500m, winning in a time of 5min 19secs to add the gloss to a quality team showing.
The intermediate team finished second in their heat and have qualified for the 'B' final at Jarrow on June 15.
Further evidence of the strength of athletics at the Escrick-based school came at the Independent Schools athletics event last month when the Under-13s came second and Under-14s and 15s both finished first out of 17 schools taking part.
