PONTIN'S League matches at Bootham Crescent next season will be turned into "Family Nights" as York City look to recruit fans for the future.

Home reserve games will now be played on Monday nights, kicking off at 7pm and free tickets will be given to schools and youth groups.

Otherwise, admission will be £2 for adults and £1 for juniors.

The switch is also seen as providing an opportunity for supporters who cannot make day-time fixtures to get a close look at Chris Brass' fringe players.

City have adopted the idea from relegated Premiership club Leicester City, who already host Family Nights for their reserve fixtures.

Family entertainment is also expected to include music and fun with club mascot Yorkie the Lion, as well as junior five-a-side games before kick-off and face painting.

Communications director Sophie McGill said: "The York City Family Nights will give families and our younger supporters the opportunity to watch live football at a very low price. School and youth groups will also be able to apply for free tickets for the Monday night events.

"We intend to host fun activities on the evenings and we hope this more accessible time will be welcomed by our supporters."
