Raccoon, who did Evening Press readers an excellent turn when winning at 5-1 as my Nap selection at Haydock last Saturday, is my tip in the £50,000 Victor Chandler Scottish Sprint Cup over five furlongs at Musselburgh tomorrow.

Trained near Thirsk by David Barron for owner Peter Savill, Raccoon will be partnered by Seb Sanders in the richest race of the day, and one which takes Lester Piggott back to Scotland.

Nearing 50 years after his first of nine Derby wins on Never Say Die, Piggott, the 11-times champion jockey, is guest of the sponsors and will present the prizes.

A wide-margin winner at Haydock, where he was wearing a visor for the first time, Raccoon is running off a 10lb higher mark. But he is an improving horse and has the plum draw in stall one, next to the favoured stands rail.

He should take plenty of catching in this 17-strong field and is again made my Nap selection. Magic Glade and Whitbarrow could be the two to chase him home.

Horses which failed to make the cut in the big race have been channelled into the compensation race, the £15,000 Victor Chandler Sprint Trophy, run over the same course and distance.

Milton Bradley, who has three runners in the main race, again holds a strong hand in this event with a further three contenders, Whistler, Roxanne Mill and Parkside Pursuit.

The last named of those won at Ayr yesterday, but I marginally prefer Whistler, who showed he was returning to form when third at Haydock last weekend.

At Doncaster, Crimson Sun will be a popular fancy in the Zetland Maiden Stakes. The Godolphin juvenile was second on his debut at York earlier this month. He can go one better here with Kerrin McEvoy, Frankie Dettori's understudy, in the saddle.

I expect Robert Winston to win on the Lynda Ramsden-trained sprinter Hiccups in the opening skybet.com Classified Stakes.

At Kempton, the Achilles Stakes, sponsored by Favourites Racing, sees the reappearance of Lochridge, who has the King's Stand Stakes as her Royal Ascot objective next month. Andrew Balding's mare went from strength to strength last year and is not to be underestimated.
