WILL Steel collected a full set of medals at the Yorkshire County Championships at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium.

The Nestl Rowntree athlete put in an outstanding performance to hold on to win the Under-17 Men's 400metres in a time of 51.1secs.

It was a great run as less than an hour earlier, he had taken the bronze medal in the 200m in 23.1secs after progressing through heats of both events earlier in the day.

The silver medal was won the previous day when versatile Steel threw 45.72metres in the hammer.

Tom Bean also won a couple of medals, being crowned the U17 3,000m champion in a personal best of 9mins 2.8secs. He added a bronze medal when he ran 4.11.7 in the 1500m.

Completing a trio of county champions was Tom Lightwing who won the U15 Boys javelin with a throw of 31.99m.

Big medal hope Richard Buck pulled up injured during the final of the junior men's 400m when he had a clear lead. However, he did clinch silver the previous day in the 200m when he was narrowly beaten into second place with a time of 22.0secs.

In the U17 women's 200m, Jess Taylor ran a strong race in 26.0secs but was just edged out into second place.

Laura Rigby produced a great run in U15 girls 80m hurdles to finish second with a pb of 12.4secs. Emily Gibbons also won a silver medal in the U17 women's hammer with a best throw of 24.71m.

Bronze medals were also won by Stephen Bailey, Richard Parr, Laura Jarvis and Alice McCabe.

Bailey ran 13.0secs in the U15 boys' 100m, Parr clocked 10.26.6 in the senior men's 300m steeplechase, Jarvis's best jump of 1.65m saw her take third in the junior/senior women's high jump and McCabe timed 48.4secs in the U17 women's 300m hurdles.

To add to the total of 14 individual medals, two relay teams were also successful.

The U15 girls squad of Laura Rigby, Nicola Bell, Kimberley Dowson and Becky Campsall stormed to gold medals as they came home in a new club record of 53.0secs.In the senior women's 4x100, a young Nestl team of Lampard/Bird/Bean/Taylor took bronze medals.
