MOUNTAINS are no obstacle for a group of York men, who are fundraising in memory of a heart attack victim from the city.
The Dids' Midnight Runners, comprising of Dale Rhodes, Philip Stockton, Michael Knowles, John Butler, Peter Cook, Wayne Dixon and Stephen Todd, will take part in the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Britain's Biggest Mountain Challenge next month.
The seven, joined by Les the dog, were inspired to conquer Britain's three highest mountains by their friend, David Gonsalves (formerly Chapman), who died last December, aged 30.
They will climb Ben Nevis on June 6, move onwards to Scafell Pike and tackle Snowdon the following day.
Team leader Dale Rhodes, said it would be a great way to remember David.
He said: "Everyone's been really supportive and the Mountain Warehouse on Stonegate has even donated clothing and equipment for us to use. So far we've raised in excess of £2,000 in sponsorship."
The event kicks of the BHF's Heart Week, between June 5 and 13. The BHF is encouraging people to join The Big Red Fightback and take steps to a healthier lifestyle.
To join the fightback, phone 01937 835 421 or call 0800 028 2091 for a free fundraising pack.
