B-A-Y, B-A-Y, B-A-Y, C-I-T-Y, with an R, O double-L, E-R-S, Bay City Rollers are the best! Oh, how it rolls off the tongue as if the 1970s were yesterday.
On first re-acquaintance, the Rollers sound shockingly simple. No spit-and- polish modern production here. But they belonged to another age: pre-puberty, politics (Thatcher) and parenthood.
They were five guys with some guitars and drums and a decent line in harmonies and bob-she-bop catchy hooks. And what tunes! Bye Bye Baby, Shang-A-Lang, Give A Little Love, Summerlove Sensation, to name but a few on this comprehensive 22-track retrospective. Will there be a new generation of fans?
Well, my two-year-old daughter is already bopping away. Rollermania forever! Or at least worth reviving for your next party.
