A timely release to cash in on the return of the US alternative rock legends, reformed and bound for a festival near you this summer.

Disregarding the fact that it's not all that long since their posthumous best-of album, Death To The Pixies, this is a flawless round-up of the career of the band who directly inspired Nirvana and Radiohead (art-rock newcomers Franz Ferdinand owe them a thing or two as well).

Led by porky manchild Black Francis, the Pixies walked the line between catchy, if bizzare pop songs and apocalyptic guitar feedback noise.

The magnificent end results sounded like nothing before or since. The twenty-three tracks here gather together the classics and a sprinkling of rarities.

If you've yet to discover this band's legacy, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Where Is My Mind? and Debaser alone make this an essential buy.
