A P COX calls the rail workers vote for strike action "silly" and implies it is simply about perks (Letters, 24 May). It is not.
The central cause of the dispute is an attempt by Network Rail to close the pension scheme and remove workers' pension rights.
Given the current pensions crisis and the hardship faced by many older people, is it really so "silly" for workers to seek to secure their future?
Especially when you consider that the directors of Network Rail will retain their own generous retirement packages on top of their six-figure salaries.
I wish RMT members the best of luck and hope they win.
