DURING the early years of the last century we children listened in awe and disbelief as our elders were forever discussing the terrible fate of the Titanic which sank on her maiden voyage.
Understandably, the subject of the liner's orchestra was of particular interest to music lovers. There was much talk concerning the title of the final tune played as the ship sank with the loss of 1,500 lives in 1912.
No members of the orchestra were among the survivors.
Fast forward to May 2004 and I read of Titanic - The Musical.
I maintain that Titanic is not a suitable theme for a musical (however 'modern') even in these so-called enlightened, relaxed, anything goes times.
A past generation would not be as circumspect as I in expressing their opinion of Titanic - The Musical!
In the newspapers of the day they would have read reports of the publics' reaction to the scale of the disaster of the loss of the ship that was said to be unsinkable.
