A BOAT which was 13 years in the making was finally launched to show the delights of Pocklington Canal to day-trippers.
The vessel - named New Horizons after one of its benefactors - has been painstakingly built by members of the Pocklington Canal Amenity Society, after its hull was donated.
The group is committed to preserving the picturesque waterway, and will now offer visitors the chance to take a ride on the barge.
The Mayor of Pocklington, Maureen Wilkinson, was one its first passengers.
Jean Hall, whose husband, Sidney, donated the hull, officially launched the craft on to the waterway.
Society member Paul Graham said the canal boat was a huge boost to the group.
"It will help us to publicise the canal," he said. "It's a lovely area."
