A SMALL team of York City Baths Club swimmers competed in the third Middlesbrough open meet and returned with five gold, five silver and four bronze medals, with 45 top eight awards and a total of 50 personal best performances.
Alice Sunderland, 14, topped the medal list with two golds and two silvers. Her victories came in the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke, with silvers in the 100m butterfly, in a National Youth Championships qualifying time, and the 100m breaststroke.
In the open age group, Mandy I'Anson won the 100m backstroke, gained silver in the 100m butterfly and landed three bronzes in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle. She also qualified for the medley skins final and finished fifth, with an unlucky breaststroke draw in the second round.
Open age swimmer Mairi Macdonald touched home first in the 200m breaststroke and was second in the 100m breaststroke.
Sophie Glasby, 11, won gold in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 200m backstroke. Andrew Fowler, 15, was second in the 100m breaststroke.
Other YCBC placings were: Andrew Fowler, 4th 200m IM, 5th 100m backstroke, 6th 100m and 200m freestyle and 8th 100m butterfly. Sophie Glasby, 5th, 200m freestyle and 7th 100m freestyle. Rachel Eastaugh, 13 years, 4th 100m backstroke, 7th 100m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, 8th 100m freestyle. Andrew Burns, 10/11 years, 4th 100m butterfly and 200m breaststroke, 5th 100m breaststroke and 6th 200m IM. David Recchia, 11 years, 7th 100m butterfly. Chris Burns, 13 years, 5th 200m IM, 100m and 200m breaststroke, 8th 100m butterfly. Sarah Benton-Rose, open age, 4th 100m breaststroke, 5th 100m freestyle, 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke, 8th 100m backstroke. Nick Boaz, open age, 5th 100m breaststroke. Alice Lawrenson, 15 years, 4th 100m breaststroke, 5th 200m breaststroke and 6th 200m backstroke. Alice Sunderland, 6th, 200m freestyle and Alex Fowler, 12 years, 7th 100m breaststroke.
Other York swimmers achieving personal best times were: Lucy Recchia, Becci Jenkins, Luke Hutchinson, Rachael Webster, Olivia Lawrenson, Matthew Reed, Duncan Rajan and Fiona Siddall.
