IT is very unfair that the only remaining farmers in Heslington, Mr and Mrs Chris Hawkswell, have to give up two thirds of their land to the University of York for its mammoth expansion plan.
The university claims that the new area will be "nearly car free" and will not threaten the lifestyle of the villagers. I find that hard to believe.
The Government will have the final say after City of York Council at the appeal hearing.
With the Government wanting 50 per cent of all school leavers to attend university, what chance of a fair hearing and of keeping their tenant farm have Christopher and Sally Hawkswell got?
