IT is hard to know where Liz Edge is coming from in her letter about monies spent on cycling (May 18).
As an ex-Labour councillor she must know that money awarded to the council to spend on cycling projects is specific to that project - it cannot be spent on anything else.
Councils draw up proposals and submit them to the Deputy Prime Minister's office. If John Prescott's office decide that a particular scheme proposed by York council is worthy of funding, they give the council funding for that scheme.
She has either forgotten how local government works or she is deliberately misinforming York residents through your newspaper. She may not like cyclists, that is her business, but spinning stories about the possibility of spending £750,000 pounds earmarked for cycling on something else is simply ridiculous.
Coun Christian Vassie,
Blake Court,
Wheldrake, York.
