Ovington tried in vain to overturn Thorpe Willoughby in their HPH York Vale League division five match.
Andrew Cole top-scored for Ovington with 40no out of 166-5. Neil Copsey hit 55no in Thorpe's five-wicket win.
Wheldrake's Harry Codling top-scored with 79 in his side's 200-7, Kevin Dent adding a worthy 53. Sheriff Hutton's Tony Fisher was undefeated on 52 in the 143-6 reply.
Selby collapsed to 83 all out against Copmanthorpe, whose Liam Elliker took 4-20. Everything was going smoothly for Cop' at 63-2 until Jim Barr (5-16) and Mike Thorpe (5-30) skittled them two runs shy.
