THE overall winners of the Evening Press Eat Local competition were thrilled to be receiving a magnificent Supreme Champion's trophy at the Great Yorkshire Show today.
Margaret and Geoff Sykes, who run the Farmer's Cart farm shop at Towthorpe, near York, were being presented with their award by Liz Page, publisher of York & County Press.
"We are thrilled and delighted and amazed," said Margaret.
"We have only been going for one year, but the demand has been so high for good, fresh food.
"People want quality food from the field. We know where everything has come from and they can question us.
"We feel that we are educating the country. We just had our first school party, so now we are looking to the future too and hope everyone will benefit".
Also at the show today, the Countryside Alliance was launching a protest against a proposed complete ban on hunting, which will be debated by MPs tonight.
