A YORK cancer sufferer was today celebrating the discovery of a transplant donor who could save his life.
Jamie Glover, 20, suffers from Hodgkins Lymphoma, and has spent the past five months in a desperate search for a stem cell transplant.
Now his doctor has told him that a donor has been found through the Anthony Nolan Trust scheme, which matches up donors and people in need.
Jamie's sister, Zoe, said the family was absolutely over the moon.
She said: "It is a great relief to us. We are really happy and so grateful to the donor and their families.
"We do not know who the donor is, as they can remain anonymous.
"We are just so pleased - this could be the person that saves Jamie's life."
Clinics were held in York for people to get on the Anthony Nolan Trust register to see if they were possible matches.
Although siblings often have a good chance, Zoe, 24, Jamie's other sister, Clare, 21, and their brother Joseph, 16, were not matches.
Hodgkins Lymphoma is a rare cancer affecting white cells in the immune system. Doctors are still unsure how people develop the disease.
Jamie has suffered from cancer since he was 18. Twice he has been in remission but, on each occasion, the cancer has returned.
