D-DAY heroes were reunited in York to mark the launch of a major historical display.
Veterans gathered at the Regimental Museum of the Royal Dragoon Guards and The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire yesterday for the official opening of an exhibition charting the Normandy landings on June 6 1944.
The landings, a key breakthrough in the Second World War, saw 5,000 Allied vessels, battleships and tankers smash formidable German defences, enabling Allied troops to enter occupied France.
The informative display charts the D-Day story through the vital role played by the East Yorkshire Regiment, using a wealth of information including maps, flags and personal letters from both sides of battle.
The exhibition will run, initially, for a month at the museum in Tower Street.
