THE Crow Twins are continuing their reign of terror at a York car park.

The birds - dubbed Russell and Sheryl - have caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage in Askham Bar car park, swooping down on cars and pecking off windscreen wipers.

One car park user said drivers had been reduced to wrapping up their windscreen wipers with towels, insulation piping or plastic bags, to protect them against the birds.

Jackie O'Neill, of south York, who regularly uses the car park, has called on the council to deal with the problem once and for all after suffering four attacks on her car.

Mrs O'Neill, who has taken to wrapping her wipers with corduroy trousers, recently returned to her car to find it covered in bird scratches along one side.

She said: "It's been five-and-a-half weeks now - nothing appears to have been done.

"Why haven't they put a notice up warning people about it?

"What's going to happen next? They are big birds - very clever. I've seen them four times in the last week."

Council officers have tried to catch Russell and Sheryl in cages, attempting to lure them with food and decoys.

Gwilym Thomas, council Park&Ride officer, said he had contacted a falconry expert to see if a bird of prey could deal with the pair of menaces.

"We didn't anticipate this lasting so long. The cages really haven't worked," he said.
