FOR years we have been writing and reading letters in the Evening Press pointing out the raw deal today's pensioners get, not to mention the growing threat to the future pension rights of younger workers, and asking despairingly: what can be done?
Well, there will soon be a chance to make our voices heard in a major national protest.
The National Pensioners Convention and the TUC have called a Pay Up For Pensions rally in London on Saturday, June 19.
All the unions are encouraging our members to take part and we hope thousands of pensioners and younger workers will march side by side for decent and secure pensions for all.
The TUC is arranging transport and will be able to provide a coach from York for £13.50 (return) per ticket provided enough people want to go.
I am canvassing interest and ask anyone keen to take part to call me on 01904 554300.
Ben Drake,
York City UNISON,
Danum Road,
York.
