RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' visited York University SC in men's division two of York Badminton League and won a close match 6-3.
Chris Hunt and Mark Finer made the difference for the Institute with three wins for a return of 90-37, including a 13 and 9 over Eng-Kiat Lim and Dinesh Veswain, who took two Staff Club wins.
An earlier match saw Staff Club entertain Knavesmire and win 5-4 after several close games. Andy Brown and Simon Fletcher effectively won the match in the opening rubber with a 15-3 11-15 15-13 over Dave Brogden and M Lawson. Brown and Fletcher went on to take all three rubbers.
Fulfordgate visited RI Tues/Thursday 'C' in men's three and went down 3-6 to an improving Institute team. Colin Brooks and Mark Stenson were in great form for the Institute winning all three, including a tough 6-15 17-15 15-10 over Peter Wilkinson and Alan Roberts.
Fulfordgate bounced back with an 8-1 home win over Selby Jubilee 'B'. Matt Hobman and Gary Hall topped the home averages with three straight wins.
Huntington Ladies visited Market Weighton with only two pairings and still managed to win the division one tie 6-3. Margaret Chambers and Claire Forth top-scored for the visitors with three wins for a return of 103-64.
Drax 'A' scored an 8-1 home win over Clifton 'A' in mixed one. Phil Brunyard and Julie Smyth headed the home averages with three wins for 92-43, while Kevin Davison and Shelagh Barker took the Clifton consolation with 13 and 7 over Steve Parr and Michelle Hall.
Rowntrees 'A' finally opened their account with a 5-4 home win over University Students 'B' in their final match of the season. Jeff Whittaker and Brenda Drummond took the vital Rowntrees' maximum, including the match-winning ninth rubber where they beat Jeff Burch and Heather Turner 13-15 15-8 15-3.
Pocklington 'A' had mixed fortunes in mixed two, losing 1-8 at home to Riverside 'A' and then winning 6-3 at home to Sheriff Hutton. Geoff Oxley and Ann Hyde top-scored for Riverside with three wins for 92-41. Jo Wade and Andrew Daffern took all three Sheriff Hutton wins for a total of 92-47.
But Riverside 'A' clinched the title with a 7-2 home win over second-placed Shepherds 'A'. Craig Dobson and Tricia Fowler led the way for the home side with three wins for 90-55, while Sean Ogley and Lisa Metcalfe played well for Shepherds.
Sheriff Hutton entertained RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' and won an exciting encounter by a 5-4 margin. Jo Wade and Chris Schofield took three Sheriff wins for a total of 90-42, while Mark Thompson and Linda Fairclough clinched the overall win with a ninth rubber 8 and 11 win over Ian Samuel and Penny Sheard.
Rowntree 'B' suffered two defeats in mixed three. They went down 1-8 at home to Selby Jubilee 'A', and lost out 4-5 away at RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B'.
