Ralph Butterfield will represent York in the rugby league section of the North Yorkshire Youth games later this month.
They beat Wheldrake 20-12 in the final of the York Schools' tag rugby competition.
Wheldrake also qualify for the Games in York on May 23 and will play in the tag rugby section.
A total of 36 schools entered the York event.
It was adopted by York City Knights Rugby League Club who, together with the Sportsmatch scheme, provided each school with a kit bag, six balls, two sets of tags and a set of cones.
Coaching sessions were held in schools between January and March by Mike Kilmartin of the Oaklands Schools Partnership, Neil Gulliver from City of York Council and Tony Gargan (title???) and involved 2,122 children.
The York competition featured ten groups with a dozen schools going through to the finals.
Ralph Butterfield topped group nine, then won their group on finals day before beating Huntington 12-8 in the semi-finals and Wheldrake in the final.

Nominations are invited from schools for athletes to represent North Yorkshire on May 22, in this competition in the various age groups.
As the multi-events may be a new venture for some, there will be an opportunity for both boys and girls in the junior and inter age groups to compete in a North Yorkshire Schools' multi-events 'trial' on Saturday, May 22 (11am to 5pm approx) at the Huntington Stadium.
While selection for the North Yorkshire team will not be based solely on this trial it would be useful if all those nominated in the inter and senior age groups were able to attend and compete.
Please note that for the purposes of the 'trial' inter girls will omit the shot and the 200metres and the inter boys will omit the shot and the discus.
