LAST week my wife and I went to the Theatre Royal in York and, beforehand, we enjoyed a pre-theatre meal at Betty's which we have done many times in the past.
We usually park in the car park near Radio York which was free after 6pm.
On this occasion we were unable to use this car park because it is only for short stays of three hours; insufficient for a meal and theatre visit. So we had to park on the Marygate car park at a cost of £5.50.
There is no other option at present because the Park and Ride facility is not available when the theatre productions end.
We have two more bookings at the Theatre Royal but have decided there after to limit our theatre going to Bradford, Leeds and Harrogate where we are able to park free after 6pm. We are saddened that City of York Council are so unsupportive of city centre businesses.
