KILNWICK Percy GC's commitment to the development of junior golf has earned national recognition.
The club, based near Pocklington, has been awarded the Junior GolfMark, launched last year by the English Golf Union and English Ladies' Golf Association in a bid to identify and acknowledge junior-friendly golf facilities nation-wide.
Clubs are evaluated on three key areas within their junior section. They are: coaching and playing; club environment; and child protection and duty of care.
Kilnwick Percy satisfied all the criteria to receive the prestigious Junior GolfMark, which is one of many initiatives aimed at helping the development of the game among youngsters.
In the club's April men's medal, Eric Sologub led division one with a nett 69 to take the overall trophy and also a place in the Hall of Fame Championship regional final to be played later this year. Peter Williamson was second on count-back from Alan Brown on 71.
The ladies' April medal went to Carol Kilford ahead of Iona Buckle in second and Vivien Howson in third. Buckle won the stableford, however, with Kilford third and Susan Hodgson in second.
Meanwhile, the club's Humber Alliance squad, led by Steve Wilcox, wrapped up their winter season with a stableford competition.
Victory went to Kyle Mathers, who is also through to the East Riding Union of Golf Clubs' Millennium stableford qualifier. The 'most outstanding player of the year' award went to Norman Turton.
