THE report by Dan Jones about Strensall and Towthorpe Parish Council (April 21) made very informative reading, except for the comments made by Mrs Thorpe as the so-called spokesperson for the five councillors who resigned.
The electorate of Strensall and Towthorpe should note that Mrs Thorpe is not a councillor and has not attended council meetings, so how can she quote what has, or has not, happened at those meetings?
As for the five councillors who have resigned, none attended the advertised public meeting to discuss with residents the increased salary, longer hours and office facilities on offer for a new clerk.
They have also refused to comment to the Press on this matter, even though they appear to be the ones behind these non-tangible benefits to the electorate.
However, Mrs Thorpe's comments are purely hearsay. As the wife of a councillor who resigned last November because of certain other councillor's behaviour, I could also say what I know, as could all the other partners and spouses of councillors including the present clerk's family. But those comments would also be hearsay.
However, I am confident that, unlike the five councillors who resigned, my husband and other remaining councillors would not hide behind any woman's skirt.
Mrs J M Harland,
Chaldon Close,
Strensall, York.
