COUNCIL Leader Steve Galloway's allegations that those opposed to the Barbican redevelopment used tactics of disinformation and misrepresentation would sound slightly less hollow had he quoted some examples (April 24).
It's easy to be critical in general terms but Coun Galloway should be specific.
As for Coun Ann Reid's comments on BBC Radio York that a public inquiry was not required because the redevelopment was what the people of York wanted, perhaps she could explain why 6,100 people signed the petition against the redevelopment and only some 1,880 were in favour in a dodgy consultation exercise.
Figures from the council report stated only 2,726 replies were received to the consultation exercise, of which 67 per cent were in agreement.
The only way this issue will be resolved is with a public inquiry when anyone can express their views, unlike the meeting of the council planning committee at which I was refused permission by the chairman to express the views of the over-50s Barbican users. John Wartho,
