AMEN frontman Casey Chaos is not a man to give up easily. Once on the verge of making it big, instead the LA hardcore punks with the fearsome live reputation imploded and lost their record deal.
Emerging bandless from the wreckage, Mr Chaos set about recording this album out of his own pocket, playing the instruments himself. The tale has a happy ending, as he was duly signed up by System Of A Down's new record label and has now assembled a new band.
This is a good thing: although this album's rough-and-ready sound is a welcome change from the slick production of most modern US rock, it doesn't have the chemistry of a real band playing together. Chaos, to give him his due, howls, bellows and riffs like a fury, referencing every iconic rock frontman from Rotten to Iggy to Marilyn Manson.
The problem is, he's not in their league - his songs are standard nu-metal whinges, however ferociously he delivers them.
