EVERYONE is in two minds about Haven, with criticism and praise abounding depending on where you look.
While debut Between The Senses, spawning the hit Say Something, was a smash for the four-piece, the lull which has greeted this second release has been a surprise. Taken on the music, rather than the reputation, All For A Reason is a fair, if unspectacular effort, with its catchy hooks and impressive vocals from frontman Gary Briggs masking the obvious lyrical flaws. It's optimistic, with single Wouldn't Change A Thing one of its more inspiring moments. Unfortunately, Haven's best work to date, Tell Me, is not included - an oversight given that with just ten tracks it can hardly be described as over-long. This record will appeal to the ranks of Starsailor and Snow Patrol fans who enjoy a memorable melody rather than masterful lyrics. And who can blame them?
