Anthony Scruton has become only the second player in local indoor bowls history to win the men's singles championship at both York and New Earswick - ten years after Mick Parker's double triumph - after making up for a shaky start against Ralph Tiplady to come through 21-10.

It's Lily in the pink for York
York and District regained the Lily Robertson Trophy by beating New Earswick 70-66.
Clarice Johnston's three pioneered a strong 20-9 York win over Maureen Wilson at Thanet Road, while New Earswick's Peg Walker rallied her three from 8-1 down to win.
At Huntington Road, Diane Hardy pulled off a nail-biting five, two, two finish to defeat York's Dot Smith 23-19, while Dot Stather and Irene Paylor took their respective fours into a 17-17 deadlock.
Champions York beat Thornaby 89-71 in the Yorkshire Ladies League division one to condemn them to relegation. Pat Bracken, Betty Richardson, Marlene Broughton and Maureen Robinson won 29-16; Maureen Thomas and Co. narrowly lost 23-20; Carol Instone led from start to finish at Thornaby to triumph 24-10 though Trish Harrison's team suffered a 22-16 loss.
