A SECOND man has been arrested after a bus carrying clubbers into York crashed, leaving one man dead.
The bus was travelling from the Ikon and Diva nightclub at about 1.50am yesterday morning when it crashed into the parapet of a railway bridge in Bootham, York.
A man, believed to have been 49, died under fallen masonry.
Two local men were arrested yesterday. One of them, a 21-year-old, has now been released on bail.
Hotel staff said they found a man trapped under masonry in the bus. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Sergeant Dave Brown said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
He said: "We have identified the people that we need to identify, and all the people have been traced and accounted for."
The bus had been carrying customers from the nightclub, in Clifton Moor, to the city centre.
It is believed between six and eight passengers were on the bus. Four people were taken to York Hospital with injuries.
Meanwhile, changes have been made to the bus service.
Peter Edwards, commercial manager for First, said the company had decided to make alterations after a meeting with the nightclub.
He said: "We were looking to see whether there were any lessons to learn."
The bus, previously a non-stop service into the city, will now avoid the Bootham area altogether, travelling instead via the Wigginton Road.
Passengers will also be able to request to leave the bus at recognised stops.
Mr Edwards said: "Under the circumstances, we just think there's nothing to be gained by keeping it a non-stop service."
He said the nightclub had said it would step up its supervision of people boarding the bus outside its doors. He did not say what was believed to have caused the crash.
