CUP-WINNERS Severus SC now need only seven points from their remaining four games to complete the double after a favourable run of John Smith's Sunday Morning League first division results.

Marcia won 2-1 at Hounds followed by a 3-0 win over Acomb WMC thanks to goals from Darlow, Cole and Young. Hounds followed their defeat with a 6-1 drubbing of Volunteer Arms with Rollinson scoring five and a 3-1 win at Pocklington saw them go level on points with Severus at the top.

However, the leaders have two games in hand and the crunch game may be Sunday's meeting against Marcia.

Kehoe hit a hat-trick as Nestl Rowntree had a 4-0 win over Ainsty Panthers followed by two draws, 0-0 with Selby Olympia WMC and 1-1 with New Earswick for whom Kev Barker was on the mark.

Olympia followed their draw with victory at Ainsty Panthers. Ginty gave them the lead after just 30 seconds and further goals from Raesbeck, Harkin and Rowbottom gave them a 4-2 win with Turner and Barron scoring for the Panthers.

In division two, Blacksmiths' hopes of joining Wigginton GH in the top-flight were torn apart by Wood who hit five goals in Thorpe United's 6-0 win, Garner grabbing the other.

Wood's spree continued when he bagged a brace in Thorpe's 5-0 win over Acomb SC. A 4-0 win over York Nomads now means that victory over Nestl Flag in their final game will see them overhaul BH Colts to take the second promotion spot, which will be a remarkable achievement after having had three points deducted earlier in the season.

Division three champions Hemingbrough ended their season with a 5-3 win over Turpin FC. Smith, Taylor, Harrison, Chaulkley and Ireland getting the goals with Slater (2) and Bastock replying.

Boot and Slipper can still grab second spot after they won 2-0 at Bishopthorpe, but they have to win all their three remaining games.

Hambleton took the division four title with a 7-3 win at The Plough thanks to the prolific Nigel Croad who scored another five goals to add to one apiece from Farrar and Harris. Chris Midgley netted twice for the home side.

Walker scored two goals in both outings for Kings Arms - a 5-4 defeat at the hands of cup finalists Heworth, for whom Harvey notched twice, and a 3-3 draw at home to Beeswing.

Shoulder of Mutton toppled Acomb Celtic 3-1, Barnes, Clay and Watkinson the scorers.

Britannia ended Wilberfoss' faint division five title hopes and boosted their own with a 4-1 win with Sebine scoring twice.

Wilberfoss also drew 1-1 at Enterprise and beat Black Swan 1-0 to move into third spot, while Selby Olympia Reserves' three wins in a week moved them to within five points of the leaders. They started with a 4-3 win at Gypsy Moth with Danny Wadsworth bagging a brace and ended with a 4-2 win at Poppleton Road WMC with Steve Jeff and Craig Anderson both scoring twice. In between they mauled Burton Stone 10-1 with Neil Earl getting four and Chris Anderson three. Stone were relegated.

Skelton are the division six champions despite a second consecutive defeat this time, 7-3 at F1 Racing, who have given themselves an outside chance of grabbing the second promotion spot.

Neale Holmes finally secured the league scoring record when he scored his 54th and 55th league goals of the season before a hat-trick from Neal Yeowart, two from Jordan and one apiece from Grewer (pen) and Iggulden gave F1 a deserved victory.

Albion Vaults began the week with a 5-0 win over Quaker Wood, White and Ward both scoring twice. But their title dream ended when they were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Swans for whom Simon Mandy scored twice.

Any one of four teams can claim second place including Firkin 103 who won 2-0 at Pocklington Rangers and Poppleton Lord Nelson who came from behind to beat CPP 2-1 with goals from Theaker and Janes.
