Perky and upbeat, Speedway's debut album is lipgloss rock at its most inoffensive.
The youthful angst-filled lyrics and bubbly tunes would not be out of place in the soundtrack of an American teen flick.
Sitting on the fence between musical genres, this is essentially rock's bronzed and manicured little sister. Lead singer Jill Jackson's vocals would suit mainstream pop and, while the melodies are exuberant and energetic, the feminine anthems don't cover any new territory.
Highlights are the soulful ballad, Always Here, which provides a rare and welcome breather from the speedy pace of the rest of the album, and Save Yourself, which brought the band top ten glory when released as a single.
The album finishes with a cover version of Genie In A bottle, made famous by Christina Aguilera. Sounding like a fluffier version of Busted, Speedway will probably appeal to the teenage market.
