WORLD cricket dream team Lashings are getting ready for a special North Yorkshire test at Malton on June 20.
The internationally renowned team, described as the Harlem Globetrotters of cricket, has fielded players such as Shoaib Akhtar, Allan Donald and new record runs scorer Brian Lara in its 20-year history, and is expected to draw a crowd of more than 3,000 for the limited over game.
The final make up of the team will depend on international commitments but former legendary West Indies and Yorkshire captain Richie Richardson will skipper the Lashings side, with Jimmy Adams, Sherwin Campbell and Franklyn Rose among those already confirmed.
Malton chairman Denis Johnson said: "It's a privilege for any cricket side to play the team. Playing against the likes of these men and this team is what every serious cricketer wants to do."
The Malton and Old Malton representative side are hoping to include a few Yorkshire faces and other special guests, including Collis King.
Malton bat-maker Nick Nixon helped set up the tie after becoming the official bat maker to Lashings last year, and has offered a hand-made bat to any Malton player who scores a century.
John Smiths and Will's Bar are supplying the beer tent and Specialist Cars of Malton is sponsoring the home team's coloured kit.
Funds raised will go towards new all-weather nets and a bowling machine. Tickets are on sale now at £5 in advance or £6 on the day, and can be bought from Will's Bar, Hoppers and Malton News, or from Joy Hudson on 01653 692223.
Any local businesses interested in backing the event can call Dennis Johnson on 01653 600003.
