IT is good to see that the Lib Dems are re-opening the debate on the location of the A59 Park and Ride.

The residents of the west of York are being asked for their views and I would like to put the following arguments in favour of Site 3.

Anyone who uses the A59/A1237 roundabout will know that a site on the York side of that junction will be a traffic disaster, which eliminates Site 1.

Sites 2, 4 and 5 all lie close to the village of Poppleton and while they may attract A59 traffic they are remote from the A1237 and will seriously damage the character of the village by urbanisation and visual intrusion; these sites should be rejected.

Only one site is not visually intrusive, remote from the village of Poppleton and has the potential for attracting traffic from both the A59 and the A1237 and that is Site 3. This site is located behind a developing business park which is already an intrusion in the countryside so there will be little loss of amenity.

More importantly it has the potential to attract cars from the A59, A1237 and the Wetherby Road, which will have a significant effect on traffic congestion on these roads and also, hopefully, reduce the rat running through the village.

I would urge everyone who has been asked to express an opinion to vote for Site 3 and to reject all other options.
