I WRITE about the plague of the BNP and its tactics in York after it recently delivered a sickening leaflet in the Fulford Road area.

These people, and other far right parties, are totally misguided and play on fear.

They make out that anti-social behaviour is tied up with immigration. Not true. The incidents they quote in York involved "white youths", as is common in the majority of such cases.

Exceptional political spin from their leader has lead to the perceived "new face" of the BNP.

If they want to talk about this country being ruled "by the English for the English" let's look at our history. In the last 2,000 years the original indigenous population has become integrated with southern Europeans (Roman invasion), Scandinavian and Germanic people (Vikings and Saxons), the French (William the Conqueror), and others.

And those who have come to this country from elsewhere form a rich part of our culture and society.

The BNP will do anything to win votes. They do this by fear and without regard for the law of the land. They degrade members of our community who provide us with services.

We are part of Europe, that's a fact. It's good for us, our workers and economy. Members of extreme right anti-European political parties want you to lose things that they enjoy thanks to Europe.

They want our economy to fail, to restrict what we can buy and for future generations to have no one working to feed financially into the economy.

If you get a BNP leaflet ignore it, it will go away to the recycling plant. Don't let them play on your fear.

Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing,

Salisbury Road, York.
