FIT-AGAIN York City striker Liam George returned to first-team action for the first time in exactly five months as a 71st-minute substitute, having last played in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Barnsley.

He is now expected to be a regular in City squads until the end of the season with player-boss Chris Brass saying: "It was pleasing to get Liam back. He knows what it's all about and he was in the side when we had our good run at the start of the season.

"He's got a tremendous work ethic and we need people like that to get out of the predicament we are in."

Richard Cooper should also be available for selection against Bury despite having to be substituted at the Abbey Stadium because of a head injury.

Brass is hoping that the fans will show the same level of support for that game as the big travelling army provided at Cambridge.

The City faithful sang throughout a drab 90 minutes and Brass said: "It was a fabulous effort from the fans. They came out in force on a Bank Holiday weekend.

"They are there and have been through so much and we have all got to stick together. I am sure they can appreciate the fact that there was more passion and commitment there.

"They have worked hard and we have got to make sure we give something back. We have got to make sure now we give them a performance at home against Bury because we certainly did not the last time we were there."
