A POIGNANT floral tribute will be made today at the grave of murdered York backpacker Caroline Stuttle to mark the second anniversary of her death.

It was exactly two years ago today that the 19-year-old, from Huntington Road, was walking across the 30-foot high Burnett River Bridge in Bundaberg, Australia, when she was thrown off. She died of severe head and spinal injuries. Ian Douglas Previte, 31, has been charged with Caroline's murder and is awaiting trial.

Her mother, Marjorie, from Pocklington, accompanied by her fiance, David Marks, was laying flowers at Huntington Cemetery today to mark the sad occasion.

"It will be a very quiet day," she told the Evening Press.

"I will be talking to my son, Richard, who is in Australia and I'm meeting up with a close friend.

"This anniversary is not a day to dread because every day is bad without her.

"It obviously reminds me of the tragedy and is a day of deep sorrow."

Meanwhile, Caroline's father Alan, 65, a renowned landscape artist, said he would be painting daffodils today as he associates them with his daughter.

"I used to paint a lot of daffodils with Caroline," he said.

"It's still very painful but we've got to move on and remain positive.

"I've had a wonderful life and consider myself exceptionally privileged. Many other parents have suffered the pain of losing a child at a very young age which is awful. I will also be thinking about them today."
