Selby carried on from where they left off in the previous outing against Old Crossleyans, this time toppling the visitors 28-3 in the first round of the Yorkshire Cup.

While the margin of victory was a little harsh on Crossleyans, Selby thoroughly deserved the win and can now look ahead to a second round duel away to Redcar or Scarborough on Tuesday, April 20.

It was all Selby in the opening spell and it was no surprise when Matthew Smith fed Tony Godfrey (pictured left) to crash over. Phil Raffen missed the conversion.

Crossleyans countered strongly to narrow the gap with the second of two penalties, but it was the last time they troubled the scoreboard.

Having made two more substitutions with Jason Cicero and Mark Tomlinson replacing Mark Toye and Sam Longthorpe respectively and now playing with the wind, Selby increased their lead in the first minute of the second half, winger Paul Scott touching down in the corner. Raffen's conversion attempt again failed.

Soon after Jamie Pocklington dived over, the lead stretched further by a brace of Raffen penalties as he erased the memory of three failed conversions.

The hosts then capped their dominance with a contender for try of the season.

When stand-off Chris McDonald fed centre Shaun Austerfield on the Crossleyans' 20-metre line there seemed to be no way through, but Austerfield magically found a way, sprinting over for the try. Dan Porter kicked an excellent conversion.

Selby have no 1st XV game planned on Saturday, their next outing not due until April 17 when Selby wrap up their Yorkshire One campaign with a trip to Pontefract.
