YORK U11 Schoolboys came unstuck for the first time this year when they lost 3-2 to an enterprising Barnsley team.
Jacob Gore used his pace to unlock the Barnsley defence and cancel out the Tykes' second-half opening goal.
But two quickfire efforts put the game beyond York.
Adam Thornton collected York's second goal towards the end of the game but there was little time to find an equaliser.
The man-of-the-match award went to Matty Dale after a composed game at left back.
York's next game is on Tuesday, April 13 when they entertain Hull at York College. Team meeting at 9.15am for a 10am kick off. Subs are £2.
Team: J Gore, C Maloney, S Byram, A Stelmach, W Pepper, J Edmond, R Buck, A Thornton, J Forbes-Walker, C Bilton, S Leach, W Bailey, M Dale, O Bird, D Fisher, G Middleston, J Maud, T Richardson, N Kilby, C Qualter, T Derbyshire.
York's semi-final Yorkshire Cup tie has been set for Saturday, April 24 at York College. Kick off is 10.30am.
