New Earswick All Blacks U12s gave a wonderful team performance, especially in defence, to beat Scarborough Pirates 14-12.
All Blacks led 10-8 at the break and did well to firstly repel Scarborough and then, after the Pirates had got a try to take the lead, to score again.
Tries came from Matty Gell and Dan Perkins, who added a goal. Liam Haxby was most improved, while the whole team were men of the match.
A depleted Heworth U13s gave a disappointing performance when losing heavily at Redhill, displaying little of the recent improvement.
Adam Jackson was totally committed while Robert Piercy and Mathew Manton got through a lot of midfield work, but too many others could not respond. John Richardson scored in each half.
Selby Warriors U9s fell 44-0 to Normanton Knights, arguably the best team in Yorkshire at that age group.
Selby kept fighting and played their best in the last five minutes, but came up against top-notch defence. Dean Spooner and Michael Pegg topped the tackle count, the latter getting the tackling award and the former the coach's choice. Jordan Chambers was most improved and Elliot Stringer man of the match.
New Earswick All Blacks Emerging-8s enjoyed a fine game at Hunslet Warriors. Most improved player was Joshie Turner, top tackler was Natasha Turner and man of the match was captain Nathan Dodsworth.
Many of the players also helped out the U8s team, who also had a good game at Hunslet. Most improved was Liam Lowson, who scored a hat-trick. Top tackler was the impressive Kieran Parker and man of the match was Charlie Watling.
Selby Warriors U11s' recent home form went missing as many mistakes contributed to a 42-14 loss at Whinmoor.
Selby started well as coach's choice Josh Skilbeck crossed, with Adam Chappell goaling, but Whinmoor took control and Selby's only other scores came from man of the match Chappell's 50-metre individual try at the end of the first half and Luke Liddle at the end of the second.
Acorn lost a physical game 24-4 at Batley. Batley applied the early pressure and through slack defending crossed three times. Acorn responded, scoring through Liam Wilkinson, and looked to be taking control, but just before the break Batley raced away to score again and in a fiery second half the hosts crossed twice more despite valiant Acorn efforts. Man of the match was Jordan Hyde and most improved was James Mountford.
