Heworth 'A' wrapped up their ninth consecutive York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker Championship with a game still to play, by defeating Acomb 'A' 4-3.
Neil Wood won the first frame with a 61 break and Clive Whyte put Heworth 2-0 in front. Ian Gillies and Peter Lawson levelled for Acomb only for Jason Milner to move Heworth ahead again. Steve Burdett (29 break) won the final frame for Heworth's 4-3 success, which maintained their unbeaten run.
Second-placed Bootham 'A' beat Fulford 'A' 4-3 with Brian Bickerstaffe and Wayne Pulleston putting Fulford 2-0 in front.
Mark Darley and Ken Taylor levelled for Bootham. Phil Oliver put Fulford ahead again and then Brian Coulson and Barry Rankin (23 break) won the match for Bootham.
Heworth 'B' moved up to fourth place with a 5-2 blitz of bottom-placed Acomb 'B'. Brian Birch, Dave Birch, Huw Faircliffe, Mick Frampton and Chris Thompson won for Heworth, with replies from Paul Waites and Steve Rodgers.
Bootham 'B' continued their revival with a 5-2 win over Fulford 'B'. Tim Fillingham, Chris Granger, Tony Lambert, Paul Mahoney and Ian Robinson scored for Bootham. Arthur Pegden and George Toone replied for Fulford. Both teams are level on 39 points but Fulford 'B' have one more win. However, Heworth 'B' have a four-point lead in the race for the John Smith's 'B' team prize.
Heworth 'B' shocked their 'A' team by going 3-0 in front in York Conservative Clubs' Kutters & Shannons Team Cup snooker knockout competition.
John Sherlock, Alf Appleby and Dave Birch were the early winners before the cup holders clicked into action. Keith Lawrence started the comeback and then Clive Whyte won on the pink and Neil Wood (45 break) made it 3-3.
Jason Milner took the final frame, also on the pink, to earn the 'A' team a 4-3 victory and a place in the final.
Bootham 'B' joined Heworth 'A' in the final after an unlikely 4-3 defeat of Acomb 'A'. The teams shared the first four frames, with wins by Tony Lambert and Tim Fillingham for Bootham, and Gary Robinson and Gerald Mackenzie (40 break) for Acomb. Paul Clark made it 3-2 for Acomb but George Long and Paul Mahoney won the last two frames for Bootham.
The final between Heworth 'A' and Bootham 'B' will be at Acomb Conservative Club tomorrow.
Clive Whyte (Heworth) was in outstanding form as he completed a 3-0 demolition of Mick Frampton (Heworth) to become the third winner of York Conservative Clubs' Foster's Challenge Snooker Cup.
Whyte (+14) made only four visits to the table in the first frame and he took advantage of Frampton's mistakes to make breaks of 25 and 59. Frampton (+14) conceded at 104-15 with two reds remaining.
Whyte had breaks of 38 and 28 as he won the second frame 84-24.
Whyte made an early break of 16 in the third frame and later compiled a 50 break, starting it by potting a long red and stunning off the cushion to get position behind black. Frampton conceded at 81-15 with three reds remaining.
In the semi-finals, Whyte had fought back from Neil Wood's opening 54 break to win the second frame with a 47 break and take the match 2-1, while Frampton defeated Acomb's Peter Lawson (+21) 2-0.
The match referee was Bob Ventress and the trophy and mementoes were presented by Colin Robinson, chairman of York Faber Shield committee.
