AS York City's men face a relegation battle in the crucial last few weeks of the Football League season, the club's ladies team are hoping to finish their Yorkshire and Humberside League Premier Division campaign as champions.
A 5-2 victory at Huddersfield Town saw York go top of the table with four games remaining with Jenny Garnett, Charlie Woodward, Emma Fawcett, Kelly Shepherd and Louise Ross all finding the net.
Huddersfield twice took the lead in the first half and the scores were level at the break.
Garnett scored York's first equaliser with a spectacular bicycle kick and Woodward was also on target, smashing a low shot in after good work by Fawcett, who gave York the lead after a good run and cross by Kelly Chesterton.
An excellent individual goal from Shepherd and a Ross tap-in after another run and shot by Chesterton secured victory.
City defender Mari Poulter was named player of the match.
An Easter Sunday home clash with Morley Spurs, who helped open up the title race by beating favourites Bradford City last week, now beckons.
York also still have home games against Bradford and previous leaders Leeds Development, who both have games in hand, and are chasing a dream double with a County Cup semi-final with Saltburn Athletic to be played on April 18.
