YORK Acorn 'A' confirmed their Pennine League division five title triumph with an emphatic 46-16 win over Wetherby in their last league outing of a great campaign.
Acorn took control from the start wih the strong running of centre Alex Cowton and winger Matt Walsh being major factors which put the visitors on the back foot.
Acorn built up a commanding 28-0 lead by half-time, their points tally having rattled along at regular intervals following early scores by Matt Walsh and Alex Cowton, following excellent approach play by second-row Stephen Waldron and scrum-half Mick Calam.
Ben Hodgson crossed with a 30-yard arcing run and Mick Calam shot over from close range following a 40-yard break by full-back Matthew Embleton, and from the restart prop Dean Crump blasted in for the game's first converted score as Hodgson finally found his kicking boots.
Shortly before half-time stand-off Tom Galloway found winger Kyle Palmer in acres of space, Hodgson converting, and shortly after half-time centre Stephen Irving raced in from half-way.
The game then turned topsy turvy with Wetherby hitting back with three tries, two converted, while Acorn replied through Embleton and, in the last ten minutes, Irving, after good work by Palmer, who himself crossed at the end, Hodgson goaling one.
