YORK RI overcame the weather and a spirited Leeds Corinthians side 18-14 to win their last home league game of the season.
The game did not start to plan as RI fell behind after ten minutes, Corinthians' centre Neil Foster racing unopposed to the posts. Danny Boyle converted.
RI levelled on the half-hour after a spell of intense pressure when wing forward David Sowray broke from the back of a line-out and crashed over. Matthew Yates converted.
A Yates penalty, given when the visitors were caught offside, gave RI a 10-7 half-time lead.
A torrential downpour at the start of the second half made conditions difficult but RI's fluency brought a try by stand-off Yates.
Two more penalties from Yates gave RI a comfortable 18-7 lead. With five minutes left Corinthians were awarded a penalty try converted by Boyle.
