WHAT a classic example of the saying "two sides to a coin".
Your report rightly heaped praise on the success of the PACY partnership project (March 29), where people who have overcome serious personal and social problems are grasping the chance to regain their lost self-esteem and take part in worthwhile community projects.
These people are so committed to gaining work experience, qualifications and personal enjoyment that a waiting list of volunteers is taking shape.
Each and every one of the volunteers has the right to feel proud of themselves and take any praise that comes their way.
Another who deserves some praise is Sgt Rick Ball who is taking to task the other side of the coin... the beggars and "pond life" who won't help themselves (March 26).
Most beggars, by their own admission, are begging to "feed" a habit.
The PACY project has proved beyond doubt that there is a way back into social acceptance and that help and support is there for the people who want it.
Rather than hauling the "hard core" beggars through the courts for a "smacked wrist", let's put them to work and let them repay society instead of sponging off it for a change.
