YORK City's new loan signing Jon Newby is looking to kick-start his career again at Bootham Crescent.
Newby, 25, was a member of the only Liverpool team to ever win the FA Youth Cup in 1996 when Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and David Thompson were among his teenage team-mates.
He also played for the first team in front of 44,000 fans at Anfield against Middlesbrough but, after a successful spell at Bury, his career has spluttered since a summer move to City's Third Division rivals Huddersfield.
A cruciate knee ligament injury and the form of Jon Stead before his Premiership move to Blackburn have both conspired against Newby since his arrival at the McAlpine Stadium and he is now happy to get a fresh start after Tranmere forward Iffy Onoura also signed for the Terriers on deadline day.
He said: "I'm under contract at Huddersfield until the end of the season but I do not know what my situation is there really. I've spoken to the manager Peter Jackson and he's told me to go away for a month, get a few games under my belt and see what happens.
"If York want to talk after my loan period then I would be happy to listen and, equally, if Huddersfield want to take me back I would also listen. But I've not played a lot of games and they have signed another striker so my future there looks bleak.
"I played up front in the first two games and did well but Jon Stead and Andy Booth did really well while I was out for three-and-a-half months injured so I couldn't really complain. There were other times, however, when I was disappointed because one of them was injured and I felt I should have been playing.
"Now, I'm just hoping to kickstart my career again and put myself in the shop window which might mean I stay at York. My aim is to get as many games as I can in this month and get back to the way I was playing for Bury last season."
Newby netted 23 times in two-and-a-half years for the Gigg Lane club but has not hit the target for Huddersfield in 15 appearances.
His lean spell in front of goal stretches to 22 games and the 6ft tall forward has only scored once in 39 matches but he has been played out of position by Huddersfield and has displayed his eye for goal in the reserves recently.
"It's just one of those things with the goals," Newby said. "I scored quite a few at Bury but have only played up front four times for Huddersfield and can only remember getting one chance.
"In the other games I have been playing on the left side of midfield which I was not very comfortable with. I have scored four in the last five for the reserves and I know that given a chance and a run of games I can get back to where I was.
"My pace is my biggest asset and when I was at Bury I made as many goals as I scored. I like to get down the channels and whip the ball into the box so hopefully I can make a few and score a few for York."
