TWO York pensioners are giving youngsters a run for their pocket money - by becoming paperboys.
Roy Shilleto, 73, and Danny Paxton, 66, have each taken on a morning round at Mount Newsagents, off Blossom Street, in order to keep fit and earn a little extra cash.
Roy, who lives in Holgate Road, ran the shop himself with his wife, Joyce, for more than 25 years, before retiring in 1986.
"I decided to take on the job because I've always been good at getting up early from when I had the shop," he said.
"I don't like the wet weather, but it's nice to hear the birds singing. I think we're a bit more reliable than some of the younger ones. Some of my old customers have been shocked to see me delivering!"
Danny, who also delivers the Evening Press at teatime, took on the job as a way of staying in shape.
John Lynch, who runs the newsagents, said: "Roy and Danny are never, ever late and always willing to do extra because they are not at school.
"I can't think of another paper kid apart from Roy who can deliver me a bundle of papers in their car when I'm struggling!"
